Numerous environmental and societal challenges are now affecting the world. Pollution, global warming, waste disposal, and infections are all threats to human life. These are only a few of the problems that exist. Human and animal health are both in danger due to these environmental issues. This essay will examine the context of two separate research studies, the interdependence of society, science, and the environment, highlighting potential consequences.
The first study by Huntington et al. (2019) found that climate change poses a significant problem for Indigenous communities in the Arctic and elsewhere today and in the future. (AMAP 2017; Rosen 2017; Watt-Cloutier 2015). Despite this, people of the Arctic continue to demonstrate fantastic inventiveness, resilience, adaptability, humor, and endurance in the face of changes that have swept the region in recent decades (e.g., Fawcett al. 2018, Kirmayer et al. 2009, Pearce et al. 2015). High poverty rates, suicide, substance abuse, limited access to health care, insufficient housing, unsafe drinking water, low educational attainment, and food insecurity, to name a few, can all be distracted by a focus on climate change alone rather than the climate in the context of numerous other risks. (CCA 2014; Forbes and Stammler 2009; Inuit Circumpolar Council-Alaska 2015). All in all, concentrating on climate change in Arctic communities as the single or significant threat overlooks more critical and concerning problems like societal issues.
