One Child Policy

The one child policy was a Chinese government rule that required the vast majority of couples in the country to have only one child. This was done to address the social economic and environmental issues that have arisen as a result of the county’s rapidly growing population. The rule went into effect in 1979 and was phased out in 2015. This law had Pro’s and Con’s when it first started up to 2015. Let’s have a look at the Pro’s.
This law received widespread support within the country. Countries should be able to direct their own societal growth, even if the other countries do not always agree with the rule in place. According to surveys conducted in 2006, 76% of the Chinese population supported the one child policy. Although some objections were based on the morality of limiting family size, families in other societies do the same thing that China mandated.
Another pro, is that it altered the states of women in Chinese society.
Because families were limited to one child, the traditional role of girls and women in Chinese society was altered. Families who invest in their child by allowing girls to attend school, receive vocational support and participate in additional training opportunities that were not previously permitted or encouraged. This has resulted a significant improvement in the quality of life for an average Chinese woman over the last generation.
