INTRODUCTION
Mona Baker is an Egyptian professor of translation studies at the University of Manchester in England. Baker is also an editor of The Translator and editorial director of St. Jerome Publishing. Moreover, she has written many important books on translation theory as well as its history. She is concerned with research in translation and intercultural studies.
The aim of this work is to present Mona Baker as a great specialist concerned with translation studies. The primary object of investigation is Mona Baker’s book In Other Words, A Coursebook on Translation (2006).
To achieve this aim, the following tasks are set:
• A brief presentation of Mona Baker’s life and career;
• A summary of the most important Mona Baker’s ideas concerning translation.
The work consists of the introduction, two chapters which analyse and give the answers to the tasks set and conclusions which sum up the most important points of the work.
The first chapter deals with a brief biography of Mona Baker.
The second chapter summarises the most important ideas on translation by Mona Baker.
Conclusions sum up the most important point of the work.
