Lithuanian Education System Needs a Reform: more and more students get overwhelmed

Every day we see more and more depressed teenagers and even young age kids. If asked to say a reason, I think a lot of them would say the same answer: school. As far as I can remember, elementary school was fun for me. Games, friends, a few books to carry, and interesting lessons to be in. So, what changed now? As we all can see, the level of education is raised a lot these days. These changes are great until we can see more and more depressed, unhappy, and overwhelmed kids in every grade at school. So in this text, I will argue why students tend to be overwhelmed and what could be done to prevent this problem.
Firstly, schools and teachers should consider giving less homework to students. This doesn't mean any homework at all but giving 2 instead of 4 tasks might help a lot. This is why. Recent studies show that the best amount of time to spend doing homework is 90 minutes. ″Once students hit the 90 minutes to 2.5-hour mark, homework seemed to provide limited benefit as students are no longer able to focus. ‶ (InnerDrive, 2022) To get a better image, here is an example of a student in Lithuania. An average high school student has 6-8 classes per day. This means that he or she gets homework from at least 5 different classes, often due to the next day. If that person spends a minimum of 30min for every subject, that's a 150min a day, only for homework. And we should not forget that those students often have extracurricular activities. Overall, quality should be over quantity and while homework has a good purpose, teachers could try to assign less of them, because this is only one...
