Liam O'Flanery the Lament

This story was written by Liam O’Flanery. The story looks very realistic and simple, but on the other hand, when reading it a few times you can see something deeper. It is called “The Lament” – what means the great sorrow or regret. In this book the title, the name of the story was written afterwards and it was very surprising, because at first glance it looks very light, sunny and clear.
The story starts with the exposition – a short nature description and a portrait of a young girl sitting on the edge of the pier. Then comes the inciting moment: a young man, an artist, asks the girls father, a fisherman to take him to the island on his boat. While the girl’s father is arranging the boat, the young artist remains on the pier with the girl. The climax appears in their dialogue: that are the girls words, that she hates the place she lives in, while the artist have been praising it since the start of their conversation and pays no attention to the girl. Then follows the short resolution, where the girl’s father comes back and floats away with the young artist leaving the girl crying. There is no denouement in the story.
The point of view is a third-person limited, someone tells it being aside, and it reveals only the girls thoughts.
There are two main characters in the story and the girl’s father is a minor character. The protagonist is the young girl, her name is Sheila and the antagonist is the young man, an artist. They both are quite round, we know about them from their actions, words, description and Sheila is a dynamic. Being happy at the beginning, she changes, and feels...
