Is the world safer/more dangerous? What causes that?

In today’s society a lot of people endure constant tension and fear relating to their everyday lives. The fact that news from all around the globe could be broadcasted to us in seconds has left lasting results on some people’s worldview. Events like unrest in Belarus, the skyrocketing numbers of coronavirus cases, or the protests taking place in Portland make it seem as though the world is a dangerous place, where conflict and death are inevitable. However, I believe that the world is safer than the media would let you believe and this essay will address the two underlying causes why.
One of the main reasons why the world has become safer is because of the profound advancements made in the medical field that have made various diseases obsolete. For example, take the bubonic plague. Appearing in the middle ages, the bubonic plague wiped out almost half of Europe but as centuries passed, the overall cases of infection declined dramatically.
