How has medicine changed over the years?

Medicine is something that is constantly evolving in our world. It is a lot different nowadays compared to medicine 200 years ago and scientists are constantly working on developing new and improved technologies to help us. In this speech I will explore the remarkable transformations in medicine over the centuries and their impact on healthcare.

There are plenty of key discoveries in medicine that have helped us immensely and cured diseases, they are discoveries like vaccines, anaesthesia, antibiotics, MRI, organ transplantation and insulin just to name a few. Back in the day medical treatments were not as effective as today and sometimes even harmful to patients, because doctors had little understanding of the human body and of the diseases in general, there were also not enough substances to treat diseases so people were healed with herbs, acupuncture and other remedies that basically did no good. Talking about this highlights an extreme and obvious advancement like the amout of medicine we have, also therapies for injuries and something we also discussed about in our lessons is extremely developed operations . These breakthroughs occured in the 19^th and 20^th centuries and I believe that they greatly revoliutionized healthcare and improved outcomes for patients. However with rapidly rising and developing medicine with it also automatically rise the prices of it. Fortunately now doctors are able to perform a lot of difficult procedures and operations that are crucially needed for specific cases, Unfortuntely, the prices usually are almost unreachable. Today most people can’t get the treatment they need not because of the lack of technology or medical knowledge and abilities but because of the crazy prices and also a few other issues are decade lasting waitlists and the opioid epidemic. Since we now have anaesthetics and other painkillers, in other words- opioids people unfortunately overdose and more often than not, pass away or develop severe conditions for the rest of their lives. So the advancement of developing opioids one one hand is a great thing because it helps to overcome a lot of issues and is one of the main things for surgeries and I believe we couldn’t imagine medicine without it, however on the other hand, there is nothing that does only good in this world.
