4B Book Report: Fahrenheit 451

Setting:

The Book “Fahrenheit 451” takes place in the future (if we say that the present is the time it was published in). The author imagined the future as a dark and sad place, which isn’t exactly how it is now, but he did imagine Bluetooth and other similar things. It takes place somewhere in America. The characters are shown in their homes, works, parks etc. so it’s still pretty similar to real life. In conclusion the story takes place in America in the future (our past).

Characters

The main character- Guy Montag is a fireman. But instead of putting fires out, he creates them. He burns books, which are banned by the government. At first he is like every other firemen, but later, after meeting Clarisse he starts to listen and think more. He realizes he isn’t happy and doesn’t love his wife. Because of his curiosity he starts stealing books and reading them. In the beginning of the book he meets Clarisse McClellan- a weird 17 year old girl, that questions him and the world. She isn’t like other people, she and her family doesn’t approve of all the new technologies. We are also introduced to Montag’s wife- Mildred. She is like everyone else- addicted to technologies and other stuff. When she finds out about the books Montag is hiding, she doesn’t approve of them and reports him to the firemen. Captain Beatty, who already was suspicious of Guy and was trying to provoke him so he shows that he has read books now has the proof to arrest him. Guy fortunately runs away to Faber- a old English professor. Faber is scared to have books but he still want’s to read them so he helps Montag escape.
