With the rise in tourism over the past century, English has become one of the most influential languages in our day and age. Some people speculate that this development will further the influence of the English language, from a prominent lingua franca to being the only spoken language in the world. However, with the easily noticeable advantages, there are also less known and significant disadvantages.
First of all, people from different countries would have little to no difficulty interacting with each other. This in turn would lead to more career and employment opportunities for individuals to work abroad. In addition, high-achieving students would face fewer difficulties when studying in a different country, most notably culture shock. Furthermore, more learning material would be accessible online. Sites such as Khan Academy, which hosts kindergarten and up to college level learning material on almost every subject, would no longer have a language barrier and would be available to every person on the planet.
