However, it violates morality and fundamental human rights such as the right to life and human dignity, with the added risk of executing innocently accused, who are not responsible for the crimes. For example, research by Amnesty International wrote about how people are sentenced to death as punishment for a variety of crimes, even for crimes that should not be criminalized. The adoption of alternative sentencing choices, as opposed to the death sentence, is more ethically acceptable because it avoids the morally repugnant act of killing, as statistics have also shown that capital punishment is not a solution. Therefore, the death penalty is modified in some nations to deter criminal activity, however, data reveals that this kind of punishment is ineffective and has the opposite effect of making society safer—it brutalizes people.
