Endangered species

Hello my name is Migle and today I am going to talk about endangered species. An endangered species is a species which has been categorized as very likely to become extinct in the near future. In 2012, the Red List featured 3,079 animal and 2,655 plant species as endangered worldwide. Animals become extinct because of pollution, destruction of their natural habitat, fishing and hunting.
For example, the blue whale is on the endangered species list. The blue whale is the largest animal on the planet, weighing as much as 200 tons (approximately 33 elephants). The blue whale has a heart the size of a Volkswagen Beetle. Its stomach can hold one ton of krill and it needs to eat about four tons of krill each day. They are the loudest animals on Earth and are even louder than a jet engine. The blue whale was driven to the brink of extinction by commercial whaling in the 1800s and early 1900s. This species was protected from commercial whaling by the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling in 1966.
