Dorian Gray book review

“The picture of Dorian Gray” is a fascinating book written by Oscar Wilde. This well-written novel was an enjoyable journey through a young man's life in the 1890s. This work of art was entertaining and satisfying because of its aesthetic characters that seemed so real and the plot twist that hit me by surprise. Undoubtedly, O. Wilde’s book deserves a lot of attention.

Oscar Wilde was born in 1854, 16 October, Dublin, Ireland. After writing in different forms, he became one of the most known playwrights in London in the early 1980s. His only novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray" was published in 1891. In this book, he refined his ideas about the supremacy of art in a series of dialogues and essays and incorporated themes of decadence, duplicity, and beauty.
The opportunity to construct aesthetic details precisely, and combine them with larger social themes, drew Wilde to write drama. He wrote some plays that were reduced a license because they were not suitable for Christianity beliefs. Wilde did not give up and wrote four more comedy plays that quickly became popular and made him one of the most successful playwrights in late Victorian London.
Wilde prosecuted the Marquess of Queensberry for criminal libel. The Marquess was the father of Wilde's lover, Lord Alfred Douglas. But O. Wilde had to drop charges which led to his arrest and trial for gross indecency with men. He was convicted and sentenced to two years in jail. He stayed strong and wrote another letter that explained his actions and the spiritual journey behind them. On his release, he left immediately for France, and never returned to his homeland. Wilde died of meningitis on 30 November 1900.
