Athens geography

Travels become more and more popular nowadays. Thus everyone people have dreams to visited distant country. I choose Athens because it is the country of my dream and Athens is the symbol of freedom and art.
Geographical location of the city. Athens (Greek: Athinai) is the capital and largest city of Greece. It is part of the “nomos Attikis” (Attica), located in the Attica, in the centre of the Greek territory. Athens lies on a small plain that extends southward to the Saronic Gulf, a branch of the Aegean Sea. The city center is 11 km (7 mi) from the coast and forms a single metropolitan area with the port of Piraeus. Greater Athens has an area of 427 sq km. Athens is surrounded by mountains: Aigaleo to the west, Parnes to the north, Pentelikon to the north-east, and Hymettus to the east. Most are of limestone or marble, from which the ancient buildings of the city were constructed. The plain on which the city lies contains isolated limestone hills, including Lycabettus, which rises 339 m (1,112 ft) above the sea, and the flat-topped Acropolis, 156 m (512 ft) high, around which the city grew.
1. Athens is one of the safest cities in the world, with one of the lowest crime rates. It is safe to walk around the city without fear at all hours, taking the absolute minimum precautions.
2. Athens Metro is one of the most modern systems in the world. It has three lines which are distinguished by the colours used in maps and signs.
3. Movie theatres in Athens, as throughout Greece, show movies in their original language with subtitles. Contrary to most other European countries, movie-going in Greece is not limited to native speakers.
4. Greeks are heavy smokers. Although the Government recently enacted a new law banning smoking...
