What makes life meaningful to you?

“What makes life meaningful? How can I make my life more meaningful?” I’m sure everyone has thought about this specific question more than once and probably has their answer, whether it’s family, love, friendships or the goals you accomplish in your life. The answer varies for each person because we’re all unique and want different things in this life, so some might find meaning in just being happy but for others that’s not enough. In this essay, I would like to share my thoughts on what gives meaning to life.

In my opinion, one of the most important things to make your life meaningful is the relationships you have in your life and the love you experience. But it doesn’t have to be the romantic love talked about in movies and books. It can just be the simple, quiet kind of love, that you may not even notice. Like, your mother buying your favorite kind of chocolate whenever she’s at the store, your friend going above and beyond for your birthday gift or the way complete strangers help one another during a time of need. We wouldn’t be able to really exist without this kind of love and when we share it with others, we automatically feel happier, and better, like our actions do have a meaning behind them.

The second thing that makes our life significant is our passion. Our passion for whatever field, it may be dance, acting, politics or ecology. It’s what makes us get up in the morning, and accomplish more than the day before. It’s what sets us apart from other people. Being passionate about something ensures a happy future, the fact that not every day of your life is going to be the same. It’s one of the things that leaves a mark of your goals and achievements. Our passion is what makes us push through difficult times and, of course, find meaning during the monotonous and tedious days.
