• Hostile aggression is a type of aggression that is committed in response to a perceived threat or insult. It is unplanned, reactionary, impulsive, and fueled by intense emotion as opposed to desire to achieve a goal.
• Instrumental aggression also known as predatory aggression, is marked by behaviors that are intended to achieve a larger goal. Instrumental aggression is often carefully planned and usually exists as a means to an end. Hurting another person in a robbery is an example of this type of aggression.
• Physical - like beating, hitting, kicking another person. Damaging property is also a form of physical aggression.
• Verbal - which may include mocking, name-calling, and yelling.
Types of aggression
• Relational - which is intended to harm another person's relationships. This can include spreading rumors and telling lies about someone else.
• Passive-aggressive - like ignoring someone during a social event or offering back-handed compliments. It is usually intended to allow harm to come to someone, rather than causing harm directly.
Aggression vs assertion
• Assertive behavior is all about standing up for yourself, but aggression usually involves threatening, attacking, or ignoring others. Assertive individuals stand up for themselves, for their beliefs, their values, their needs. And they do so in a respectful, unthreatening, nonviolent way.

• Age – Violence peaks in the late teens and early 20s.
• Sex – In general population, males tend to sort to aggression more than females, they also are more likely to receive aggression.
• Social class – aggresion is three times more likely to occur in lower social class.
