Travel and tourism industry in the UK

I have been asked to do three tasks related to the travel and tourism industry in the UK. In the first task I have to describe and explain the structure and principal sectors of travel and tourism industry, roles as well as interrelationships between each sector. The second tasks ask is to describe the most significant developments in the travel and tourism industry in the past and future. Finally, the last tasks is to choose one sector of the industry and explain the commercial response of that sector to changing demands from travellers and tourists both in the past and in the future.
This assignment will help me to develop my knowledge in travel and tourism industry as well reveals my understanding about it.
The travel and tourism industry is one of the world’s biggest industries growing very fast. It is divided into six main sectors shown in Figure 1.

Tour operator – is a legal company (person) providing holidays, tours and all tourism services for tourists, such as transport and accommodation. There are two main types of tour operators:
• Mass market offers all types of holidays and destinations for all people (young, old, and child).
• Specialists are experts on their destination able to provide all details about it.
Irrespective of a kind of package holiday, it is offered to travel by air, rail, ship or coach. There are three types of the air industry, which is the biggest one:
• Charter – a plane is hired for a specific flight or for a few months for package holidays.
• Budget –a kind of plane which is flying most of the time. It spends less time on the ground which means it costs less.
• Scheduled –a type of flights targeted at business people because it has timetable.
