1. Some people feel that the cost of space exploration is far too high for the benefits it brings. Others argue that space programmes should continue no matter what the cost. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Thanks to the modern technology nowadays, exploring space becomes increasingly easier. While some people thinks that the benefits of space exploration do not justify the money spent on it, I personally side with those who believe that no matter the cost, space exploration should continue.
On the one hand, discoveries from space are often unpredictable. For example, usually it takes years to uncover something new, or useful, through space exploration. This long timeline requires continuous funding, and sometimes the results can be disappointing—or worse, there might be no significant results at all, leading to a perception that the money has been wasted. Additionally, the money used on failed explorations could be used for a pressing issue on earth, for instance, to end various global problems, such as, starvation in poor countries or water shortage. To conclude, spending money on earth could be more beneficial then spending money to explore space.
On the other hand, there is a strong possibility that, in the future, Earth may become uninhabitable due to climate change, so exploring alternative habitats for humanity is very beneficial and, in my opinion, worth to spend money on. Findings from space exploration, a good example could be Mars that is proven to have conditions needed for humans to live, could save humanity from extinction. (In this context, exploring alternative habitats for humanity, such as other planets, is crucial and justifies the expenditure. For example, findings from space exploration, such as evidence that Mars has conditions necessary for human life, could potentially save humanity from extinction.) Moreover, every planet in our solar system share some similarities, so, I believe, learning about space is a good way to deepen our understanding of our own planet. Also, exploring other planets could show what is inside earth, therefore the results would not only give more information about space, but also about our planet (offering valuable information about both space and our home planet.).
