Prostitution of children may be the sexual intercourse by family members, local men, foreign tourists, pedophiles; Children may be 'trafficked' — transported to another place, either within or outside their own country, for the purpose of exploitation, such as forced labour or prostitution. Or they may be exploited by an adult who has a continuing abusive relationship with a child, offering rewards, gifts or protection in exchange for sex.
There is evidence that orphans and homeless children are abused and exploited and children are trafficked from the rural regions to the larger cities for the making of child pornography. These children are also used by child sex tourists who travel to other countries to abuse children.
New information technologies, such as the Internet, enable pimps and predators to recruit victims or advertise the victims to sex offenders. Children are stalked by perpetrators in chat rooms.
Girls and boy are trafficked for use in the making of pornography.

Child prostitution, like other forms of child sexual abuse, is not only a cause of death and high morbidity in millions of children, but also a gross violation of their rights and dignity.
