MOTIVATIONAL LETTER FOR DEBATING IN GERMANY

Dear Teachers,

I am ..., hope you are doing well. I wanted to take a moment and explain to you why I am interested in going to our

school's partners - Freiherr vom Stein, and how I will benefit from it and what is my past experience.

Throughout my time at Saulės Gojus, I have had the opportunity to participate in many activities and organize them as well,

such as organizing the now traditional SG Basket basketball tournament and participating in debates like Kamal's Debates and

Laura's Debate on climate. I like and value all the experiences, but going to a different country, being around different people

and their culture would be totally different. I also want to gain more experience, speaking publicly, meeting new people in new

places and so on. Thats why I want to take part in this journey. I am interested in debating about schools, what they should or

should not teach or problems and wishes of students, also the problems with social media and in general teenage life. But I

would actively participate and debate on other topics like politics, etc.

The things I would personally benefit from are teamwork – meeting new people and sharing different opinions, public speaking

– after, I would be more confident in sharing and arguing out loud, writing – I would improve in researching and writing

arguments and critical thinking – when the debate is going, and the other team gives an argument you need to respond to their

argument quickly but in a balanced and reasoned manner. As I mentioned before I hold the Saulės Gojus basketball tournament

which requires time, preparation and talking with teachers to make it better. I also have debated and overall participated in

Kamal's debate where we talked about “Should we forget the Soviet Union and move on?” and where I was one of the debaters
