Talking about price we can not notice delivery, because closing-out price will most likely differ from the price at which we bought and this difference results in a trading profit or loss.
Participants in a futures market include hedgers, such as farmers and corporate treasurers who adopt an insurance approach, and speculators, who have no physical position but hope to earn profits from their activity. For them a futures market’s liquidity – and immediacy – are particularly important.
Living life on the hedge
A currency forward is simply an agreement to buy or sell foreign exchange at an agreed rate and at a certain time in the future. A currency swap can be seen as a series of forward contracts. Currency options give a company the right to buy or sell foreign exchange.
Arguments for hedging:
• Opponents of hedging argue that there is little exchange risk in the long run and hence hedging is redundant.
• If foreign exchange exposure is left uncovered, the gains and losses tend to average out over longer periods and it does not pay for a company to bear the cost of hedging.
