Chernobyl tragedy

In the meantime information arrived that some soviet specialists showed already in the 70s doubts about the safety of nuclear reactors of RBMK-1.000 type of which one exploded in Chernobyl.
However, apart of electric energy, some amounts of plutonium were obtained from them, which the military needed for their atomic bombs.
Various inadequacies were detected at the construction of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant itself. According to KGB information for the highest state authorities (dated February 1979) the design and construction standards were reported to be infringed in a series of parts at the power plant and design principles were reported to be disobeyed which could lead to accidents. Despite such assessments, the constructors of the Chernobyl power plant received high state distinctions. The secretariat of the Ukraine Branch of the Soviet Union Communist Party awarded high financial awards for completion of the fourth block of the plant. The same which has later exploded. The document which stated that there were not only errors committed by, the personnel operating the fourth block but also faults in design, was found only in 1990 by a commission of MPS of the Highest Soviet of USSR in a secret archive. Despite the decision to stop building power with the RBMK reactors, two more blocks with RBMK reactors were put into operation in Russian Smolensk and Lithuanian Ignalina two years after the Chernobyl tragedy. The official soviet conclusion on the Chernobyl tragedy was that the accident was caused by the power plant operators.
In the meantime the information has arrived, from which some Soviet experts showed already in doubts of 70-s' nuclear reactors about safety, type RBMK-1.000 which has blown up in Chernobyl. lacks of construction of an atomic power station were found out.
