Building Materials (presentation)

Introduction
Building material is material used for construction. Many naturally occurring substances, such as clay, rocks, sand, wood, and even twigs and leaves, have been used to construct buildings. Apart from naturally occurring materials, many man-made products are in use, some more and some less synthetic. The manufacturing of building materials is an established industry in many countries and the use of these materials is typically segmented into specific specialty trades, such as carpentry, insulation, plumbing, and roofing work. They provide the make-up of habitats and structures including homes.
Stone
Natural stone is an expensive building material. It is mostly used for both external facing and load-bearing purposes, as well as internal finishes for walls and floors
Advantages:
1. Little cost for preparation and transportation to construction sites.
2. Very durable materials for building purposes
Disadvantages:
1. Decay is not an uncommon thing for stones.
2. Natural stones are very likely to get discoloured.
Bricks and blocks
Bricks and blocks are made of fired clay, calcium silicate or concrete. Concrete bricks can be used for foundation work and exterior walling, also common bricks can be used for general building work.
Advantages:
1.Hard and durable
2.Compressive strength is good enough for ordinary construction
Disadvantages:
1.Very Less tensile strength
2.Rough surfaces of bricks may cause mold growth if not properly cleaned
Ceramic tiles
Tiles are made by shaping clay into desired forms and firing them into kiln. They are used as roofing tiles, sewer tile pipes, also in fireproof walls and partitions. In the past it was used to to conduct air in public baths.
Advantages:
1. Ceramic tiles are super strong, long-lasting, and abrasion-resistant.
2. It is water-resistant. The material has a protective layer on top that makes it stain- and water-resistant
Disadvantages:
1. The ceramics tile flooring does not absorb or retain heat effectively.
2. Because ceramic tile flooring is heavy, it is not a good choice for upper-story installations.
