Article - Are there no selfless people left

Today I read a statement that people these days are motivated only by self-interest and no one does anything for anyone else anymore. It’s pretty shocking to hear something like this and I must prove that this statement is wrong. I think that there are plenty of examples which show that there are some truly selfless people out there and William Kyle Carpenter is one of them.
William Kyle Carpenter is a medically retired United States Marine who received the United States' highest military honour, the Medal of Honor, for his actions in Marjah, Helmand Province, Afghanistan in 2010. On 21 November 2010, Carpenter and another Marine were manning a rooftop security post during the defence of the village of Marjah. When the enemy landed a hand grenade in their sandbagged position, Carpenter, without any hesitation, moved toward the grenade so as to shield his fellow Marine from the deadly blast. By doing this, Carpenter was severally wounded, but saved the life of his friend, doing a truly selfless and heroic act.
